Free SEO Tools For Your Blog Or Website

Trying to get to the top of the search engine results pages (SERPs) on a low budget? Not everyone can afford to pay out $100 +  a month for the suite of SEO tools offered by the likes of SEOMOZ or $300 a month to join the professional SEO community of SEObook.com.

Not to worry however! In fact, you really don't even need to pay for tools like these because you can find them all over the Internet for Free. Of course, when you are buying into the community of SEOmoz and SEObook, you are buying into much more than just the tools, but in fact the overall community (which sort of makes it worth it in its own sense). Anyhow, without further adu, here are the free tools!

Blekko - the self curated search engine with a link profile checker

Blekko is a search engine that not many people know about. what makes it different than the likes of Google, Bing, or Yahoo is that users are allowed to casts votes on a website to whether it is actually spam (Learn how Spam websites suffered with Google Penguin Update) or not. In fact, the search egnine has already cast out the top 20 spams sites voted by users, eHow being one of them.

Anyways, the other thing that makes blekko really cool is it's ability to to peek into backlink profiles with the backslash tool. This is especially awesome since Yahoo site explorer is down and SEM rush is charging money for their site exploring capabilities leaving very little options for free backlink checking.
All you have to do to check out a sites linking profile is type the domain in the search field followed by "/seo." If you do this something like this will appear and it will tell you exactly how many links you have, where they are from in terms of geogrpahy, and what web sites they can be found on:

Google Webmaster Tools

Google webmaster tools is one of those tools that you don't hear about too often on SEO blogs as compared to third party tools. In fact, some people that are obssessed with gaming Google's system prefer to not even have their sites listed in Google analytics or in Google webmaster tools because they think that it might actually hurt their site rather than help it.

But if you do choose to use these tools, and it's probably a very good idea to do so, you will see that they can provide you almost everything that upper tier SEO tools could provide you.
With Google webmaster tools you can:
  • See your impressions in the organic SERPs as well as the click through rate of each of your pages
  • You have the option to demote sitelinks
  • Set your URL parameters
  • Change Your Address
  • Access your Crawl Errors and Crawl Stats
  • View blocked URLs
  • Fetch as Google
  • Malware
  • Links to your site
  • Internal Links
  • Many Other Optimization and Traffic Data Inquiries
  • Add Sitemaps of your website.

Link Detective

Using linkdetective.com requires a login membership, but it is also free. It requires you to dowload a backlink profile that you obtain from either Open Site Explorer or Majestic SEO in a .csv or excel format and then upload it into his little tool thingy mabobber.

After a few hours he will send you a link report with a pie graph that goups up all of your backlinks and tells you exactly what type of link each and everyone is. This is extremely useful if you are trying to scale up your link building efforts and want to know what certain types of links might be useful and also work within your marketing budget.

All of these tools are extremely helpful and can help you tremendously when working out the kinks in your link building plans. Using them all together will definitly allow you to see how exactly links effect your website.
